Leopard-Human conflict is one of the main reason for large number of leopard deaths in India. Timely and adequate compensation to villagers can reduce the deaths, if forest dept. employees asks bribe from villagers what will happen?

Poachers killed a leopard in Dudhwa Tiger Reserve

Post-mortem report of a leopard found dead in Katerniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary a part of Dudhwa tiger reserve in Uttar Pradesh on 27th July shows that animal was killed by poachers.

Courier personnel in Chennai found a cat snake during the scanning of a parcel addressed to Slovakia. Later wildlife personnel rescued the snake and a case under wildlife protection act has registered.

Tamil Nadu forest department arrested two persons with a pair of elephant tusks. Animal had poached by them on two months back in Sathyamangalam forest division.

Nine arrested for killing Chinkara in Madhya Pradesh

A Chinkara was killed in Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh on 18th July, during investigation forest department recovered 35kg of meat and arrested nine persons.

Snake smuggling racket busted

Two live pythons were seized by forest department of Orissa at Kandhamal district. Earlier on first week of July also one python was rescued from smugglers.

Wildlife Trader convicted to one year imprisonment

Wildlife Trader who was arrested in 1995 with skins of leopard cat, jungle cat, jackal, civet cat, mongoose and otter was convicted by a Delhi court to one year imprisonment and Rupees 5,000 fine on 18th July 2011 after sixteen years of his arrest.

Tusks recovered in Jharkhand

Panna tiger deaths investigations

Like in Sariska tiger reserve poachers were wiped out the tigers in Panna tiger reserve, Madhya Pradesh during 2004-08 period. Several cases were registered and poachers were apprehended in Sariska, unfortunately authorities are still discussing whom should be booked in Panna.

Leopard caught in trap set by poachers

Leopard caught in iron jaw trap set by poachers at Udaipur on 2nd July 2011. Animal was lucky, tranquilized and rescued by Forest dept. Later forest dept. arrested 2 persons with traps and body parts of animals during combing operations. This type of trap usually used by professional poachers. Beware Udaipur! professional poachers are on prowl.

Assam Rifles seized Pangolin scales

Last week two cases of smuggling of pangolin scaled were detected in Manipur. The frequent seizure of the wildlife products in Manipur indicates that the Indo-Myanmar route in Manipur appears to have become one of the main transit points for smugglers to transport wildlife products to china and other South Asian countries.
